MEET OUR ELECTED LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES & STATE NOMINEES

(for the November Ballot)

Christine Bennett, Select Board

I believe government runs best when it is transparent, respectful of different viewpoints and grounded in the rules that govern our town.

After more than a decade of serving Eliot as a volunteer and Planning Board Chair, I am running for Select Board to bring the thoughtful and forward-looking approach to governance I have learned along the way to the Eliot Select Board.

My Values:

Throughout my time in town government, I’ve tried to approach decisions with transparency, respect for different viewpoints, and a commitment to following the rules and charter that guide Eliot’s government. I believe good local leadership depends on listening carefully to residents and making decisions openly and responsibly.

Just as important, I believe town leaders must think about the long-term impact of the choices we make today. My professional experience as the Executive Director of a local land trust and my current work as a budget analyst for a large public water utility have given me experience with conservation, infrastructure planning, and responsible financial stewardship.

Those perspectives reinforce what I’ve learned through my service in Eliot: thoughtful planning and steady leadership are essential to protecting the character and future of our community.

Alex Orestis for Maine House of Representatives Nominee

I’m Alexandros Orestis, a longtime Eliot resident and former Chair of the Eliot Select Board. My public service has focused on the practical work of local government, balancing budgets, improving infrastructure, and making sure town services meet the real needs of families and seniors.

During my time on the Select Board, I worked closely with residents, town staff, and regional partners to address issues that directly affect daily life, from property taxes and capital planning to public safety and long-term sustainability. That experience gave me a clear understanding of how state decisions play out at the local level, and how important it is for Augusta to listen to the communities it represents.

I’m running for the Maine House of Representatives because I believe our state needs steady, community-focused leadership. Too often, policy debates lose sight of the people they are meant to serve. I bring a problem-solving approach grounded in local experience, careful budgeting, and a commitment to transparency and accountability.

My priorities include protecting access to healthcare, especially for seniors and families who rely on Medicaid, addressing affordability pressures like rising property taxes and cost of living, and supporting strong local communities through smart investments in infrastructure and public services. I believe Maine can meet these challenges without shifting the burden onto working families or leaving towns to fend for themselves.

Above all, I believe government works best when it is accessible, thoughtful, and focused on results rather than rhetoric. As a state representative, I will work to ensure that policies are practical, fiscally responsible, and shaped by the voices of the people they affect.

I would be honored to earn your support and the opportunity to represent District 150 in the Maine House.

I look forward to listening, learning, and working together to build a stronger future for our community.

Prior to moving to Eliot, he was deeply involved in civic leadership in Beverly, Massachusetts, where he served as an elected School Committee member, including as Chair of Negotiations, and later as a City Councilor, serving as both Council Vice President and Chair of the Finance Committee.

Professionally, Jim has spent the past 25 years with The Bank of New York Mellon as an Information Technology professional.

Jim and his wife, Stephanie, are proud homeowners on State Road in Eliot and remain actively engaged in supporting the community they call home.

Michele Meyer for Maine State Senate Nominee

Michele is a Democrat and has announced her candidacy for Maine State Senate District 35 which includes the towns of Ogunquit, York, Kittery, Eliot, and South Berwick

“Healthy communities start with a people-centered approach to government . The skills I’ve developed and refined over the course of my nursing career- critical thinking, active listening, collaboration & compassion- have proven essential in my work in state government–a solid foundation for effective, impactful public service.

My policy work as the three-term Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services has prioritized access to quality healthcare for all Mainers, the well-being and security of older and disabled residents, the safety and stability of Maine children and their families, addressing food & housing insecurity & building and strengthening our healthcare workforce and delivery system.

As a proud member of the House Democratic caucus, I have delivered on my promise for property tax relief, increased education funding, and environmental protection.

My priorities remain squarely on lifting up and improving the lives of the people I represent.

I have worked hard to ensure the work of state government is focused on the needs of the people through solution-focused policies grounded in the values of compassion, well-being and justice. That’s how good government happens”.

Mallory Cook, Maine House of Representative Nominee

I’m Mallory Cook, a longtime South Berwick resident, community leader, and problem-solver who believes leadership starts with listening and showing up. I’ve served eight and a half years on the South Berwick Town Council, including three years as Chair, bringing hands-on experience with local budgets, schools, and community priorities.

I combine data-driven decision-making with empathy and common sense—always focused on what works for the people who live here. I’m running to bring steady, thoughtful leadership with heart to Augusta.
